Meet Irene Moore
Teacher's Grade - First, Somu and a former member of the Board of London Sogetsu Branch and Ikebana International, London chapter
I studied Interior Design, which inspired my interest further in the fine arts and my love of flower design.
I’m originally from Singapore but now reside in Epsom. As a family in the 80s and 90s, we moved around in various countries, and it was in Oman that I was first introduced to Ikebana.
I’ve never looked back and have become a devoted teacher and demonstrator!”
Ikebana gives me a lot of peace
“I guess you could call it meditative before such a thing was so popular! It really cultivates awareness and appreciation of nature which has given me much enjoyment of what is around us.
Now that I’ve been teaching for some years, I love the process and get great satisfaction from the results of my students. With Ikebana one does not stop learning and I still attend workshops with great masters.
My teaching is centred around The Sogetsu School, which was founded by Sofu Teshigahara in 1926. He was a Philosopher and Sculptor and he had the foresight to see how Ikebana could be encouraged and developed within the modern world.”
